Finance Councils

Each parish has a Finance Council, as required by Canon Law.  The Finance Council is a standing committee of the Parish Pastoral Council.  The Finance Council is responsible for helping the Pastor with the stewardship of the physical and financial resources of the parish.

The Finance Council is made up of members appointed by the Pastor for their expertise in matters of maintenance, finance, or law.  It makes recommendations to the Pastoral Council after it has studied a particular question.

The Finance and Pastoral Councils treat the same subjects, but in a different way.  When a matter comes before the councils, the Finance Council studies the facts of the matter.  What does a project cost?  What is the best bid?  How much income can the parish generate?  Then, it presents findings to the Pastoral Council, so that the Pastoral Council can advise the Pastor on the ultimate questions:  Should we undertake this or that project?  How should we act at this time?  Would this be a wise course of action?

The Finance Councils meet four times a year, at the Cluster Office in Protivin.
