Anointing of the Sick
"Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.” James 5:14-15
An ancient practice of the Church, the Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing and strength in the face of serious illness, uniting the suffering of the sick to the suffering of Christ Himself, as well as assuring those who are sick of the presence of the Church with them.
Anointing is appropriate for anyone who has been diagnosed with a serious illness that could result in death, or prior to an operation related to a serious illness. It is not necessary to wait on asking for anointing, as it is meant to encourage and strengthen one through the course of illness. Typically one is encouraged to make a good confession prior to receiving this Sacrament.
If you or a loved one are in need of the Sacrament of Anointing, please contact Fr. Radloff at the parish office, as it is often difficult for us to know who is in need, due to HIPPA laws within hospital systems.
