Pastoral Councils

These groups are commonly known as "Parish Councils," but the proper name is "Pastoral Council."  The word "Pastoral" is important because this council is responsible for helping the Pastor, not for running the parish.  The way this council helps the Pastor is by making recommendations and offering their practical wisdom on matters he presents to them.  The recommendations of the Pastoral Council become implemented when they are accepted by the Pastor.

The Finance and Pastoral Councils treat the same subjects, but in a different way.  When a matter comes before the councils, the Finance Council studies the facts of the matter.  What does a project cost?  What is the best bid?  How much income can the parish generate?  Then, it presents findings to the Pastoral Council, so that the Pastoral Council can advise the Pastor on the ultimate questions:  Should we undertake this or that project?  How should we act at this time?  Would this be a wise course of action?

Each Pastoral Council is comprised of members elected to three-year terms.  Parish elections are held in May by the parishioners.  Parishioners should try to identify and elect members who are known for their ability to work well with others, discuss issues openly, and seek wisdom from all sources.

The Pastoral Councils meet four times a year, at the Cluster Office in Protivin.
